Shopping on a Budget – Invest in Shirts Last

by Lajya

A guy with good style is like a breath of fresh air. Because I prefer fresh air to, not fresh air, I want to share my fashion advice with you men. More important than how one looks is obviously how they feel.  To me fashion is a form of art and self-expression.  From my experience with taking male friends shopping, the end result has always been the same. They don’t just look good, they expressed that they looked on the outside the way they had been feeling on the inside.  They just needed some guidance with putting it all together.  The following are simply my own fashion philosophies but if they interest you, do read on.

I’m going to begin with talking about shirts. Shirts are great, but they’re getting a little bit too much attention. This attention should be focused in the area of 2 crucial categories – jeans and shoes. If you don’t have the jeans and shoes down, it doesn’t matter if you are wearing an incredible shirt. Flip that, and if you are wearing some sexy jeans and shoes, you can get away with murder as far as your shirt is concerned.

Your shirt will usually be seen before the jeans and shoes when women look at you, but the glance quickly goes to the jeans and shoes. If the jeans and shoes are wrong, then everything becomes wrong. However, if the jeans and shoes are right, then even the shirt is right (even if it isn’t a great shirt). If all is well with the jeans and shoes, the rest will fly. The jeans and footwear give credibility to everything else you’re wearing.

This is significant in terms of budgeting for your wardrobe. Your money would be better spent on denim then on fancy shirts. This means that you are literally better off buying $250 diesel jeans with a $6.96 H&M t-shirt then wearing jeans that are so so with a pretty good shirt. I’m not saying to go to that extreme with your denim purchase, but you know what I mean. And do not think for a second that just because they are on your feet that we don’t notice the shoes. We don’t only notice, but focus on the shoes. We always take note of the shoes.

The same awesome pair of jeans loses all of its credibility once the shoes are bad.  The kicks and the denim being done right are a must.  They work together and they set the stage. So to sum up, jeans and shoes run the show.  Until you’ve got them down pat, no one cares about your rhinestone shirt (but please god don’t wear a rhinestone shirt).
